Show Synopsis from Music Theatre International: A Little Night Music, by Stephen Sondheim, is a romantic, comedic musical set in 1900 Sweden, following actress Desirée Armfeldt as she navigates a tangled web of past and present lovers, including lawyer Fredrik Egerman (her former flame) and his young wife Anne, and the jealous Count Carl-Magnus. The story crescendos during a weekend at Desirée's mother's estate, leading to witty reconciliations, new romances, and iconic songs like "Send in the Clowns," exploring themes of love, regret, and second chances through a sophisticated, waltz-infused score. This story of romantic musical chairs is presented as a romantic farce, capturing the "Smiles of a Summer Night" from its Ingmar Bergman film inspiration.
