Inclusive Programming
Memorial Opera House facilitates three different programs centered around inclusivity: The Penguin Project™, Penguin Players, and Golden Age Players.
The Penguin Project® is a national non-profit organization dedicated to providing theatrical opportunities for differently abled individuals, setting the stage for fun & acceptance for young individuals with different abilities. Each artist (11 - 17) is partnered with a peer mentor (11 - 17), who assists them throughout the rehearsal process and performs alongside their artists.
This unique community theatre program has brought together talented artists with developmental disabilities and their peer mentors to perform in inclusive, inspiring productions. In these productions, artists with Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism, intellectual disabilities, and other developmental or neurological differences take center stage, showcasing their talents alongside peer mentors who volunteer to support and collaborate with them. We provide a safe, ADA accessible space for rehearsals and performances, which is of the utmost importance for all involved.
