The Memorial Opera House and The Historical Society of Porter County Present

An Evening with Valparaiso's famous cowboy Broncho John Sullivan

 

Please join us for the grand unveiling of Broncho John Sullivan's 1866 Abbott & Downing Concord Stagecoach Wednesday, May 14 at 5 p.m. This special invitation-only preview of the stagecoach at the Memorial Opera House marks the opening of the new Broncho John exhibit at the Porter County Museum.

 

One of Valparaiso's most famous residents, Broncho John Sullivan was part of the original Buffalo Bill Wild West Show, Doc Carver's Wild West Show and later starred in his own Wild West show that ran for many years in Valparaiso.

 

Distinguished guests invited to this special preview include Gov. Mitch Daniels, Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman, Senator Evan Bayh and Senator Richard Lugar, along with local and county government officials and members of the press.

 

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the presentation will begin promptly at 5 p.m. with performances by Tom Byerly, as Buffalo Bill and a preview of the Memorial Opera House's upcoming production of "Annie Get Your Gun." A champagne reception is set to follow the program.

 

Guests will also have the opportunity to tour the new Broncho John Sullivan exhibit at the Porter County Museum. The Memorial Opera House is located at 104 Indiana Ave., Valparaiso and the Porter County Museum is at 153 S. Franklin St., Valparaiso

About The Memorial Opera House - Built in 1893 by the local chapter of the Grand Army of the Republic, (the G.A.R.), this 364-seat building is a living memorial to the county's Civil War Veterans. The building is currently owned and operated by Porter County. The Opera House has been a venue for theatrical events, concerts, public meetings and other events. About The Historical Society of Porter County - The Porter County Museum opened to the public in the second county jail and sheriff's residence on May 11, 1975. The musieum includes more than 5,000 square feet of exhibit space  and is the city of Valparaiso's only history based museum.
